The last wedding I went to was at a yacht club in Seattle. The ceremony was outside, with Mt. Rainer looming behind the couple. It was quite excellent.

Also: we saw both Sir Mix-a-Lot and Mark Arm from Mudhoney around town. Also quite excellent.

We kind of did both. Actual wedding in NC was on the OBX and very small, like 40 total people. Sounds like a lot but it seemed small because it was immediate family and our day-to-day friends. A few days later we threw the big reception in PA for my YUGE family (parents divorced + catholic upbringing = two sets of lots of aunts and uncles on my side) and every person my wife has ever met.I don't even know 315 people. We did the opposite and eloped far away from family, and it was awesome.Source of the post We invited 315

Ah, gotcha. Neither my wife nor I wanted a big wedding, and both families were fine with us eloping and simply having a 'reception' at home afterwards with close friends and family. Of all of the weddings that I've ever attended, the smaller ones were always more enjoyable. We kind of did both. Actual wedding in NC was on the OBX and very small, like 40 total people. My wife and I bailed on 1 wedding, but that's because we were puking our guts out the night before and the day of. We seriously thought if we just could get over the puking, we'd go. We know what it feels like to have people cancel on us last second, or not show up without notice.
In the end, we thought it was best to prevent the spread of ebola, so we cancelled. We apologized profusely, and still joke/apologize about it 2 years later with the bride and groom.

We're still amazed how much fun we had. I think breaking it up over the course of four days really helped us slow down and enjoy the moment. No real regrets, we did a beach wedding (lighthouse grounds, actually, no sand, woo) so it was cheap as hell. Didn't have debt from the wedding hanging over us for years, basically paid for it up front.

This was the biggest factor in our decision, as well; not having to deal with wedding details and the like was also great. I can't recall the exact number that we spent, but it was under $1k for the ceremony (including the beach license, photographer, etc.), and my outfit ended up being more expensive than my wife's dress. If we hadn't done this, I doubt we'd have been able to afford the house that we're currently in. I know people who are still paying off their wedding from 5+ years ago.Source of the post No real regrets, we did a beach wedding (lighthouse grounds, actually, no sand, woo) so it was cheap as hell. We wanted good beer, good food, and good music. We got all three and had a hell of a time. We still have people telling us how fun our wedding was. Mission accomplished.

Our biggest ceremony expense was probably the single violinist. We did it in a national park so we couldn't hang decorations or anything. Just a nice simple ceremony. Loved it.
Actually, the photographer was probably the most expensive guy but he was cool and did good work.

If they want to get into the home delivery of groceries business (and they do), this is a pretty classic example of vertical integration. Andrew Carnegie would be very proud.

So, with pretty much complete unanimity in the wedding feedback, are we all agreed that NP is not going to the wedding?

You seem overly invested in this. So, with pretty much complete unanimity in the wedding feedback, are we all agreed that NP is not going to the wedding?
Should he go: Absolutely, no questions asked, he should go.
Will he? The world may never know.

We had a bridesmaid bail out the night before our wedding.

Tif, how does *that* make you feel?
My best man (small wedding party, just me and him on my side and my wife/MoH on the other) forgot his corframs. Luckily some guests were driving past his house and got the apartment super to let them in to get them.

I had to google corframs. TIL.

What was the bridesmaid's reason for said bailage? Like I said, there are acceptable reasons, and they are generally limited to things like unexpected dismemberment. If she just up and said, yeah no, that's not forgivable.
You're taking what is meant to be the most special day in the life of a, presumably, close friend and putting them under undo pressure, and shifting focus away from the couple (read: bride).

Yeah, the bridesmaid thing is tricky. Her role in the wedding was obviously yuge, some something REALLY YUGE has to have happened for the cancellation. Given more information, how I feel about that bridesmaid is either going to be rage or extreme sorrow, not a lot of room in between.
